Sorry you are not invited
What happens when you hear about a party (gathering) you aren't invited? choose all that applies.
a. go confront the host
b. reflect upon yourself
c. wonder quietly but pretend nothing happened
d. organize another party later and not invite the host
e. asked some of the invited guests to hangout with you during the time of party
f. heck it- it's no big deal, who cares
g. none of the above
A couple of friends planned to come over for a small get-together. So we took the opportunity to turn it into a birthday celebration, for Tap and me. That also gives me an excuse to get a few more other people over to see my new place. But still a small party, cos my place is really tiny.
Jo heard about it and realised that she was not invited. She called me up 24 hours before the party and asked why:
jo: I'm just curious why you didn't invite me for you party tomorrow (she was speaking really fast on this one)
nic: huh? i.. (was cut off)
jo: you think i won't get to hear about it?
nic: huh?
jo: i'm just curious that you would ask me out for a drink but not invite me to your party.
(ok, just 10 min before this call, i had left her a voice mail asking if she wanted to grab a drink later the evening - to which she replied no. then, she called me back again for this)
nic: what's the connection?
jo: i just find it odd and the people on your list are all my friends.
nic: (thinking... territory marking.... hmmm..) ?????
jo: it's alright, i'm just wondering. enjoy your party tomorrow.
nic: sure. thanks. you have a good day too. (phone 'click'. hung up)
Woman!!!???? what is this??? conversation between 2 women > 30 years old, but i think sounds like that of 13-year olds.
what a phone call to receive on a saturday afternoon while i was trying to study.
oh, let me take it in good spirit - people are dying to come to my party!!! ha ha ha. people who weren't invited felt left out of the 'in' list (to those who didn't make it - you missed out BIG TIME!!!)
i didn't know i created an elite group??!! anyway, childish and ridiculous. i don't know what to say.... so, what's your answer for the opening question?
Model answer as provided by Jo - a & e.
ps - oh yes, she invited one of the guest to go 'cherry picking' with her during the time of the party. and yes, the guy missed my housewarming. But it's ok, it's all about choice. i told the guy, sincerely, to enjoy himself - because the rest of us will.

ok lah, just joking lah.
Parties in the US is a big thing. It is a culture in itself. To party means 'it is cool to hang out with this person'. Leaving someone out means he/she ain't cool to be seen with. THerefore it is easily misconstrued as over-sensitivity.
Who's Jo to you? Apologise and tell her that you invited her out for a drink coz she's special to you. A party is just a get-together and it gets rowdy and impersonal.
